NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP WEEK 2024

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS OF THE UNITED STATES

A PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, 2024 marks the 87th Anniversary of the National Apprenticeship Act; and

WHEREAS, National Apprenticeship Week is celebrating its 10th anniversary with the theme “10 Years of Engagement, Expansion, and Innovation.” Department of Labor is raising awareness of the vital role that Registered Apprenticeships play in providing opportunities to the people of the U.S. Virgin Islands by allowing apprentices to earn while they learn and preparing a pathway to good, quality jobs, and well-paying careers and the ability to advance in those careers; and

WHEREAS, the advancement and well-being of the U.S. Virgin Islands depends upon its ability to expand opportunities in its workforce that are inclusive of individuals who have been historically underserved, marginalized, and adversely affected by persistent poverty and inequality in their chosen fields; and

WHEREAS, Registered Apprenticeship programs are an employer-driven model that enables employers to develop and train a dependent workforce while offering career seekers affordable paths to secure high-paying jobs; and

WHEREAS, the U.S. Virgin Islands recognizes that Registered Apprenticeship, a proven and industry-driven training model, can train our workforce and build a pipeline into good, quality jobs to address our Territory’s pressing workforce challenges such as rebuilding our infrastructure, addressing critical supply chain demands, supporting a clean energy workforce, and responding to critical sectors including the healthcare, construction, and maritime industries.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Albert Bryan Jr., Governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands, do hereby proclaim November 17-23, 2024, as “National Apprenticeship Week” in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Government of the Virgin Islands of the United States to be affixed at Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, Virgin Islands this 25 day of October 2024.
